Partners for Patriots
In 2015, the Department of Corrections began a new project in conjunction with Partners for Patriots and the Noah's Hope Animal Rescue of Sioux City.
Inmates at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield are learning how to train dogs to be a service dog for a disabled military veteran. The training can include everything from teaching the dog sign language to training it to turning lights on and off.
Once the dog is trained, Partners for Patriots matches the dog with a disabled vet. Since the dogs are often shelter dogs, the program can serve to change multiple lives for the better.
