53 percent of the adult female inmates were serving time for drug offenses. Less than a fifth (18%) of the female inmates are serving time for a violent offense.

Nearly half the male inmates (48%) were serving time for a violent offense. Less than a quarter (22%) of the male inmates are serving time for drug offenses.
